What’s Going On at GMLCPA?

Well, if you know me, there are a lot of things always going on at GMLCPA,pllc. So, I wanted to update you all on what we have been working on over the summer. As a progressive Next Generation CPA firm, the only thing that stays the same is change and I am proud to say I have a great team that enjoys the challenges.

Team

In June, I attended the AICPA Tech, Practice Management and Marketing Conference in Las Vegas. As a leading conference for CPA’s in the United States there is over 60 different sessions to attend. I love this conference because there are vendors there from many different software companies. At the last minute, I was asked to sit on a panel for the Next Generation CPA firm and talk about how we have implemented our cloud systems, gone paperless, and how this technology has allowed for us to work remotely. I was so excited to be apart of that and was able to encourage others to try new things and change their practice.

As a spin-off of that opportunity I was asked to collaborate on a couple of articles regarding working with multiple generations and the firm dynamics as well as an invite to be on the AICPA PCPS Advisory Board (for small practitioners). In general, I will be collaborating on articles for the AICPA and giving feedback on ideas along side other thought leaders in the industry. Very exciting stuff!

Internal conversions

July has been an exciting month as well. We have been looking at systems internally and trying to fix a few things we felt were broken. We have adopted Xero.com as a major part of our firm and have started converting our internal customers (in-house) to this software. This will allow for transparency in the bookkeeping process and we love that our customers will have access to their own accounting 24/7. The bookkeeping side of our company will be simplified and that’s what we are about.

Along with the season of change we have teamed up with GreenLink Payroll to provide better service and less liability to our payroll customers. For years we have been challenged with a paper system that was laborious and not as clean as I would like it to be. Now payroll taxes are paid at the time of the payroll run, meaning all deposits are done immediately and quarterly and annual reports will be filed electronically without any chance that all three agencies will be missing a report. Our goal of being completely paperless and electronic is coming to pass!

On another front, we have struggled for years with sales tax filings. The City of Tucson is now accepting sales taxes online along with payment so now we can file both the City and the State online. We are working diligently with each business owner to move to this format as it reduces the chances of a return being lost in the mail which happens more often than I would like.

All in all, it’s been a very busy summer season but I am happy to announce all these great changes. I believe that it will allow our customers to be better served while increasing the security of using our firm. Our customers are amazing and we want to continue to be more than the average CPA firm.

If you have questions about how we use any of  this technology or would like to work with us because we are a Next Generation CPA firm, shoot me an email at gluoma@gmlcpa.com. We are really pushing the envelope but I would never be satisfied with what everyone else is doing because we are about making accounting and taxes simple.
